If the combination of  arcade, beach volleyball, and Amiga  makes you want to sunbathe and dunk virtual balls, this news is for you. From the vibrant Amiga community comes the latest effort from prolific developer  JOTD, fresh from his port of  Lock n Chase. His new project is a faithful adaptation of Technōs Japan’s 1988 arcade  game US Championship V’Ball , now available in a near-final version for our beloved Commodore computers.

For those unfamiliar,  US Championship V’Ball  is a classic two-player sports game that follows the adventures of two beach bums, George and Michael, as they chase a large cash prize in a national tournament. As Wikipedia reports:

The player controls a couple of beach bums named George and Michael who make a living playing volleyball against the locals. One day, they find a flyer for a national beach volleyball tournament offering the winning team a cash prize of $2,500,000. In single-player mode, one person controls both characters on a team. In two-player mode, players can cooperate by playing on the same team or compete by controlling opposing teams.

JOTD has worked tirelessly to bring this title to the Amiga, personally overseeing the reverse engineering, transcoding to the 68000, and converting the graphics and sound. The soundtrack will soon be enriched with an original piece by  no9, completing the work.

The result is impressive and optimized for different hardware configurations:
