We knew about rPKG (retail package), dPKG (debug package) and fPKG (fake package) and now a new format is coming, it is the uPKG (unciphered package). Let’s calm down right away, it’s not actually available yet and only exists in the minds of some developers, but what is it?

– rPKG (retail package) corresponds to commercial games distributed on the PS Store or on disc, signed and encrypted by Sony.

– The dPKG (debug package) is used on development and test kits, allowing the installation of internal builds.

– The fPKG (fake package) is a format not signed by Sony but patched to be accepted on jailbroken consoles.

– The hypothetical uPKG (unciphered package) would be a fully decrypted version, without layers of protection, used to analyze, modify or reconstruct PS5 content for study or internal use.

Currently, there is no publicly available tool to generate or install a uPKG. The idea remains largely theoretical, discussed in the PS5 reverse engineering community. The goal would be to make it easier to extract and understand game data without relying on encryption keys, but this would obviously involve significant legal and technical issues (particularly related to DRM and PS5 system security).

The idea is conveyed by Zecoxao, which gives it a fairly solid source, moreover with the recent progress made on the deactivation of the A53, and the joint improvement of kstuff, it could be that this new format will be quickly adoptable, at least on old firmwares.
