The developer zecoxao has released a new ELF payload that, once injected, allows you to decrypt the PlayStation 5 PUP update files, offering an effective method for analyzing and modifying the console’s system packages.

The project is based on contributions from various members of the scene, including SpecterDev for SDK files, LeGend for testing and Scene-Collective/l0lhax for the original code, as well as other anonymous contributors who have contributed their technical support.

To use the payload, you need to place the PS5 update file, renamed to safe.PS5UPDATE.PUP, in the directory /mnt/usb0/of a USB stick connected to the console.

After the link, the decryption process will start automatically from the PS5. Once completed, the tool will generate one or more decrypted files, called PS5UPDATE1.PUP.decand PS5UPDATE.PUP, which can be later analysed.

Currently, the tool is unable to decrypt some system files, such as system, system_exand wlan. .

In addition, the decryption process only works with PUP files of the same firmware version installed on the console (for example, an update 5.00 can only be decrypted on a PS5 that already has firmware 5.00 or lower).
